Day by day, hour after hour we go on living our lives to only get caught up in the busyness of life and forget the importance of being thankful for the blessings God has given us. Our fast paced lives overshadow the importance of the blessings we have. Instead of looking at what we have in front of us, we stay focused on the pursuit of getting the next thing that will fulfill our human “immediate gratification” desire.
Well, if this is you, then I have one thing to say (especially during this week of Thanksgiving): Stop and smell the roses. Take time to take a step back from life and appreciate the little and big blessings you have in your life. If you are always in a rush, you will not enjoy life’s little pleasures because you are too focused on what’s ahead and not living to appreciate the now.
Everything we have is a blessing from God (no matter on its size or value) and we must be grateful for it. Instead of acting like kids at Christmas where they see a present, want to open it and once they do, aren’t appreciative of it anymore and throw it on the side, let’s really savor the blessings in our lives.
Take some time to thank God for your family, health, life, job, schooling, etc. Be thankful to Him because His love and His promises are forever.
Psalm 106:1
“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; His love endures forever.”
I know for many, you may be bitter towards this Thanksgiving season. I’m sure that some of you reading this may have recently lost your job and/or are in financial turmoil in the midst of the economy. This is my encouragement to you. It says in the Bible that whoever can be trusted with little, can also be trusted with much. This may not mean a lot to you, but God wants to see how you handle things in the good times and the bad. He will never give you more than you can’t handle and really press on toward God and have faith that He will deliver you with that job, that next mortgage payment, the next check to live life off.
Remember God will never leave you nor forsake you. It shouldn’t only be during Thanksgiving where we give thanks for what we have, instead take time to give thanks and praise our heavenly creator for your abundant blessings on a normal basis. If you think you don’t have anything worth recognizing, look around at different areas in your life. Be thankful for the air you breathe, family, friends, being able to live another day and a whole lot more.
